Guest Post: Living the Digital Nomad Dream in Osaka

Guest Post: Living the Digital Nomad Dream in Osaka

My name is Feli, and I’ve been a nomad long before being a digital nomad was a thing. For the past 15 years, I’ve been living around the world, constantly reinventing myself and my skills. This journey has taken me to different countries, allowed me to learn seven languages, and offered a variety of job experiences from humble beginnings to high-paid corporate roles. Now, as the Head of Expansion for Yayem—a private network for next-gen nomads and curious adventurers—I’m excited to share my story.

I decided to write this article because, as a digital nomad, I realized Japan is a perfect destination to spend some time. Japan is a dream destination for many, known for its manga, J-pop, and incredible food and culture. So, why just be a tourist when you can live in Japan for a while, choose a city with an amazing quality of life, and find a great space to work? Recently, Osaka was ranked as one of the top 10 best cities to live in the world, and after spending about three months here, I can confirm it’s true.

Why Osaka is Perfect for Digital Nomads

I first came to Osaka for 10 days, thanks to a program targeting digital nomads after the government released a visa for us. Initially, I planned to stay briefly before heading to Indonesia. However, after a few days in Osaka, I knew I had to change my plans and stay longer. The openness and friendliness of the people amazed me. One night, I made friends with locals who had just returned from Italy. They invited me to various places, treated me to sushi, cosplay snacks, karaoke, and clubbing—all without letting me pay. This warm hospitality and the city’s incredible food and attractions made me realize Osaka was the perfect spot for me as a digital nomad.

Osaka offers a high quality of life and affordability, making it an ideal city for work and leisure. It’s strategically located in the Kansai region, close to Kyoto, Nara, and Kobe. It’s just a shinkansen ride away from Tokyo, making it perfect for weekend trips. The city’s big but not overwhelming, with lively spots like Dotonbori and a vibrant nightlife. The metro system makes getting around easy, and the apartments, though small, are affordable and convenient.

Living and Working in Osaka

Working from a place that meets all my needs is crucial, and for me, that place is FUTRWORKS. Located in the Umeda area, FUTRWORKS offers elegant yet friendly facilities, with private rooms, meeting spaces, open areas for networking, and quiet zones for focused work. The space hosts various activities like kickboxing, yoga, happy hours, and day trips. FUTRWORKS’ partnership with Yayem ensures more community-related events, making everyone feel at home.

I lived in neighborhoods within walking distance of Umeda Station, such as Nakatsu and Fukushima. These areas are vibrant and convenient, with easy access to the metro and

shinkansen for quick trips to other cities. Must-visit spots include Dotonbori, Shinsaibashi, Umeda Sky Building, and Tsutenkaku Tower. Kyoto is just a train ride away, perfect for day trips to experience its cultural richness.

Immersing in the Local Culture

The best way to immerse in local culture is through FUTRWORKS and Yayem. Yayem offers guides and hidden gems in Osaka, ensuring you experience the city like a local. They focus on connecting international people and creating a community that embraces the local culture. This approach makes digital nomads feel more integrated and helps them have a unique, authentic experience.

Osaka as the next destination

The best thing about Osaka is its strategic location, friendly people, and amazing food. It’s a big city but not as overwhelming as Tokyo, making it perfect for a stable, enjoyable life. FUTRWORKS provides an ideal workspace, and with Yayem, you can be assured about a vibrant community and unforgettable experiences.
